Charlie Bass
Charlie Bass received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hawaii in 1972. After graduation, he accepted a position teaching computer science at UC Berkeley, and in 1975, he joined Zilog, a microprocessor company which developed the Z80; an architecture employed in literally billions of embedded applications. In 1979, he co-founded Ungermann-Bass, the first networking company to deliver computer independent local networks and the first to go public in 1983. From 1983 to 1997, Dr. Bass was the Consulting Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. In 1989, he formed Bass Associates, a venture capital company specializing in early stage investments. He is Chairman of the Board of Socket Mobile Inc. (SCKT), a mobile computing system company.
Reijiro Samura Reijiro Samura is a Managing Partner of Ant Capital Partners Co., Ltd., a leading buyout and secondary equity fund with $1.3B under management in Japan. Prior to joining Ant Capital Partners in 2005, he was a chief manager of the Credit Products Investment Group at Mitsubishi Trust and Banking Corporation beginning in 1990. His previous experience included corporate finance, aircraft finance and import finance at the Export-Import Bank of Japan and West LB Asset Management in Chicago. He holds a B.S. in Economics from Osaka University, Japan.
Jack Carsten
Jack Carsten has been a Managing Director of Horizon Ventures since 1999. Prior to Horizon, Jack founded Technology Investments in 1991 and was a General Partner at U.S. Venture Partners from 1987 to 1990. Jack was a Vice President of Intel Corporation from 1975 to 1987 and helped them to grow from a $35M startup to revenue of over $2.5B. Originally hired as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, he was named as the General Manager of the Microprocessor Group in 1979 and subsequently, the Senior Vice President for the Components Group, responsible for all semiconductor manufacturing and engineering. Prior to Intel, he was a Division Manager at Texas Instruments for their MOS and TTL Divisions. Jack is a founder of the "Band of Angels" investment club and of the Valley Medical Center Foundation. He holds a B.A. degree in Physics from Duke University.
